Blizzard: legendary ranged weapon to come soon as boss drop - Image 1

Thyvene said at the European forums of World of Warcraft that the legendary ranged weapon revealed in BlizzCon 2007 will be added soon. The French Blizzard community manager says that it will be a drop from a high level boss, though the weapon type, ETA, and assigned boss hasn't been fully confirmed.

There's speculation that the new drop could be added with patch version 2.4 of World of Warcraft, and that the target boss will be one available at the Sunwell Plateau. This would jive well with the revelations at last year's BlizzCon, where it was said that the legendary ranged weapon would be available by the next raid content.

I love the profession system in WoW, but sometimes it strikes me as odd that we're basically paying money to go to work. I wouldn't run around the world and skin animals, pluck feathers, find rare threads and cause massive environmental destruction for a leather jacket in real life, but I'll gladly do all that to make an epic leather chestpiece in WoW.

Nevertheless, it's a good idea to pick up a crafting profession in WoW, just for the perks. (Unless you want to be one of those ultra-capitalists who take two gathering professions.) We've covered this in general terms before, but today we're going to focus on the crafting profession-specific BOP items and abilities that can really help out rogues in the end-game.

Gelvas, the ticket masterIt's the first full week of the month, and among other things, that means that the Darkmoon Faire is in town -- That town being Shattrath City, at least for February. We've said a few things about the Faire in the past, but I'd like to get into the meat of the thing, so you can figure out how to get all you can out of Silas and his merry band before they head out for another month, or at least start your preparations for their next gig in Elwynn Forest. This time, I'd like to talk about the ticket system, that lovely process whereby Gelvas Grimegate turns Darkmoon Faire Prize Tickets into loot. Fellow blogger Robin Torres posted a good introduction to the system a few months back, but I'd like to expand it a bit and see what we can find out about how it works and why -- or if -- you should take advantage of it.

Check it out after the jump!

Today being the first day of the lunar new year (for the eastern hemisphere at least), I shall lay my shadow bolts down and talk about something close to my roots: the Lunar Festival. Hey, even evil warlocks come from somewhere, you know.

Removing diminishing honor to the fix the AFK problem

Relmstein's latest post asks an interesting question: will the removal of diminishing honor returns in patch 2.4 help Blizzard combat the ongoing AFK problem? His suggestion is that removing the diminishing honor will mean that there is more honor available in the BGs, and that that will drive players back from the "peace cave" out into the battlefield (since they were only AFK-ing because they didn't think they could earn honor fast enough.

So it's time for WoW Insider to do you all a favor. It seems like whenever we attempt to predict the timing of a certain patch, Blizzard ignores whatever we say, and drops it right away. With patch 2.2, we predicted in early September that it would take "weeks" longer, maybe even last November, and instead they had it out within the month. And with patch 2.3, we guessed that Blizzard wouldn't drop it before Thanksgiving, and just hours later they proved us wrong, and released it before the holiday.

Happy Lunar Festival! Ae as we celebrate the festival of the moon in World of Warcraft, we should take pause to reflect on the many dogs in our life. From the hounds in MC (can't you just hear your old raid leader yell: "LOOT THE DOGS!"), to the annoying wolves that get in our way when farming Netherweb Spider Silk. But for a short time, there is no other top dog on the block then Omen.

Hanging out in Moonglade, he's a real pain. Before you even think of killing him, you need to get to Moonglade first. Since I mainly roll with my warrior when attempting new things, I wasn't able to just take the easy way to Moonglade and teleport myself there. However, many thanks to Toast who filled me in on a little tip: talk to the Lunar Festival Night Elves in any major city to get a scroll that'll teleport you to Moonglade. To get the scroll all you have to do is complete a quest that has you light off a few fireworks that you can purchase from a near by vendor. Easy as pie.

Level up, and then go in, because the other side (whether they be Alliance or Horde) is bringing nines, and sometimes even twinks.

In an interview at Computer and Videogames, Tigole mostly discusses some things we've already heard about, such as the Lake Wintergrasp PvP zone and the process to unlock the Death Knight class, but also reveals a few very tasty little morsels of new information as well.

First, he tells us a little bit more about Blizzard's philosophy behind Inscription, the new trade skill slated to be released with the expansion. While it appears that only one inscription will be allowed to be on a spell at one time, their goal is not to create one or two all-powerful inscriptions that will be used above all others, but to give players a variety of valid choices as to how to modify their spells. The example he gives is that of Frost Nova. One player might choose an inscription that gave their nova a longer range, while another might choose one that would lengthen the duration of the root associated with it.

Like MMO-Champion says, this isn't the biggest surprise, but we now have confirmation (en français) that a legendary ranged weapon will drop in the new 25-man raid in patch 2.4's Sunwell Plateau. Specifically, it will be a direct drop, like the Warglaives of Azzinoth, and not the result of a quest chain, like good old Thunderfury. Still unknown is which boss it'll be from (though Boubouille reasonably supposes that it'll be the last boss, Kil'jaeden).

World of Warcraft: Account Security reminders - Image 1

In every MMORPG game, players are always concerned about account security. The same goes for Blizzard with World of Warcraft, the company shows concern for the welfare of the players. In order to keep things in order and to resolve game-related issues, Blizzard blue poster Eyonix has made a lengthy reminder to the gamers.

Eyonix posted that players "take caution when being directed to outside websites and update the security on their computers accordingly." He also suggested that gamers should also add Internet security, in the form of a firewall and/or anti-virus scanner. In addition, consultation with Network administrators should be sought after whenever a problem is encountered.

He also recommended that players should use the Blizzard Launcher when starting the game as it provides greater security from harmful software. If players want to know more about the Launcher, they can simply go to this site.

Eyonix also noted that gamers should run the Windows Update or Software Update in order to secure a safe operating system environment. In addition to this, players may have to run the updater more than once to ensure all the high priority updates are acquired. Many of these patches require a system restart and additional patches will complete the process.

Finally, Eyonix had some additional information for players for future uses. He posted:

Specifically, he asked if it was meant for mages only, whether Shattrath would get a portal for it too, and whether or not you would required Revered or Exalted reputation to use it.

Such is the case with the Lunar Festival, celebrated by the druids of Moonglade in Azeroth. Honoring your elders and indulging yourselves in magnificent feasts never looked this good - or exciting.

So, just what IS there to do in the Lunar Festival in Blizzard's World of Warcraft? Why, monsters, items, fireworks, and outfits, that's what! If you're feeling a bit bloodthirsty, then hunting down the beast of Omen (a giant two-headed something with fangs and claws) can take care of your appetite posthaste.
